Common practice is to mount the cabinet so the hose valve or reel hub sits roughly 900–1500 mm above finished floor level, keeping the equipment within easy reach. What size is a fire hose reel cabinet?
A typical fire hose reel cabinet is 800 × 650 × 220 mm, stepping up to 800 × 800 × 280 mm for larger swing reels with 30 m hose. Where the reel shares the cabinet with a fire extinguisher, sizes move into the 1500 × 700 × 240 mm double-door class. How much wall clearance does a recessed fire hose cabinet need?
The rough opening should allow the cabinet body plus roughly 25 mm clearance on each side, and the wall cavity must be deeper than the cabinet body — cabinet depth plus about 20–30 mm for fixings and services. Where the wall is too thin, a semi-recessed cabinet projecting 40–100 mm solves it; for 6 in and 8 in hollow-block walls we build the body 178–200 mm deep.

A fire hydrant cabinet holds the landing valve and its hose, so it follows the same series as a hose cabinet: around 750 × 600 × 180 mm for a compact single-door unit and 800 × 650 × 220 mm where a reel or a longer hose is stored. Fire hydrant box dimensions in India are quoted in inches — usually 24 × 18 × 10 in (600 × 450 × 250 mm, height first) for a single-door box with one 30 m hose, and 24 × 30 × 10 in for the double-door box. Outdoor hydrant boxes on stands are built deeper, around 800 × 650 × 250 mm, with a weather-sealed solid door.
How do fire extinguisher cabinet dimensions compare?
A fire extinguisher cabinet is much narrower: roughly 650–720 mm high × 300–320 mm wide × 200–240 mm deep for a single portable unit, against 750 mm and up for a hose cabinet.
